A Fort Collins backyard wedding holds a kind of magic that you cannot manufacture, especially when it takes place at your childhood home. Noel and Jade’s day is one that still makes me smile every time I think about it! From the moment I arrived at Noel’s downtown loft Airbnb for a morning full of laughter and anticipation, I knew this was going to be a wedding day full of the good stuff. The kind of day that reminds you what weddings are actually about. Real moments, real people, real love. And a setting that means something to the couple.
Below is the full story of how these two celebrated in a backyard full of memories, surrounded by people who adore them, and an energy that felt like a warm hug that lasted all day.

Noel chose the cutest downtown Fort Collins Airbnb loft to get ready with her bridesmaids and family, and it was honestly the perfect pick. Picture sunlight pouring through oversized windows, exposed brick, soft music playing on someone’s tiny bluetooth speaker, and a whole lot of joyful chaos. The loft felt like home but with the added glow of a big day unfolding.
While makeup brushes and curling irons passed from hand to hand, Noel’s mom quietly touched the fabric of her daughter’s wedding dress, smiling in that way moms do when a whole lifetime of memories suddenly hits them at once. When it was time for Noel to put on her jewelry, shoes, and veil, her mom helped with each piece slowly and carefully. She fastened the necklace, buckled the shoes, adjusted the veil, then stepped back.
And then the tears came. Happy, full hearted, unstoppable tears. The kind of tears that make everyone else well up too.
It was one of those moments that felt suspended in time, and I swear the whole room went silent for a second. Weddings can be many things. Big, wild, colorful, loud. But often the most powerful moments are the quiet ones.
Once Noel was fully ready, it was time for the bridesmaids reveal. We lined everyone up, told them not to peek, and had Noel step into position. On the count of three, Noel’s mom opened the door that separated the room from the living room. As soon as Noel was in view, everyone immediately lost their minds. Screaming, crying, cheering, flapping hands in excitement, the whole thing! Noel looked so incredibly beautiful, and their reactions were one hundred percent pure joy. Exactly how a bridesmaids reveal should be!

After the excitement in the loft, we made our way to Noel’s childhood home where the ceremony and celebration were held. If you have ever considered hosting a Fort Collins backyard wedding, Noel and Jade’s setup was the ultimate inspiration. The family had transformed the space into something warm, welcoming, and absolutely stunning.
In the middle of the yard stood the most incredible arch. Lush, grounded, intentional, and full of texture. It felt like a piece of art against the backdrop of the home where Noel grew up. There is something beautiful and full circle about getting married in the place that shaped you, surrounded by the people who helped raise you and support you. Backyard weddings have a way of bringing everything into focus.

Before the ceremony, Noel and Jade chose to do a first look, and I am still swooning over it! Jade stood under one of the the big backyard trees while Noel walked toward him. That quiet walk, her dress brushing softly against the grass, the anticipation building with each step, is one of my favorite parts of any wedding day.
When Jade turned around, his face lit up instantly. They melted into each other with the biggest smiles and the sweetest hugs. You could tell immediately that this was not just a first look. It was a moment that said we have waited for this day for so long and now it is finally happening.
First looks give couples a rare chance to breathe, connect, and just be themselves without the pressure of a timeline or an audience. Noel and Jade fully embraced that. They soaked in every second.

After their first look, the two found a quiet moment under that big willow tree to share private vows. Just the two of them. No audience, no eyes watching, no noise from the world. Only the soft movement of leaves, the hum of autumn air, and two people promising forever in the most authentic way.
Private vows are one of my favorite parts of modern weddings. They let couples speak freely and honestly. They let the day feel rooted in intention. Noel and Jade held hands, cried, laughed, and read words they had poured their whole hearts into. It was beautiful, intimate, and deeply meaningful.
When they finished, they took another moment to simply stand together. Not rushing. Not moving on too quickly. Just holding the weight and sweetness of what they had said.
If you are planning your own Fort Collins backyard wedding, consider private vows. They give your day a layer of intimacy that photos love to tell the story of.

Soon it was time for the ceremony with their closest people. There is something special about backyard ceremonies. They feel warm and connected. Guests sit a little closer. Kids peek around chairs. Dogs sometimes wander by. People laugh more easily. You feel the blend of home and celebration in every detail.
Noel walked down the aisle with her mom and dad, and you could see how proud they were. Jade waited at the front, smiling, ready. The arch framed them perfectly as they stood in front of everyone who mattered most.
Noel’s grandpa officiated their wedding, another incredibly sweet and intentional detail about their day! He spoke so beautifully about their relationship, how they balance each other, the adventures they have already shared, and the life they are building together. Guests laughed during the funny parts and wiped tears during the sweet ones. It was a ceremony that did not try to be anything other than exactly what it was. Simple, heartfelt, and full of meaning.
When Noel and Jade were finally pronounced married, the backyard erupted in cheers. Family cheered. Friends cheered. A couple neighbors may have cheered from across the fence, too! It was an explosion of happiness.

After the ceremony, we explored the yard and the property for portraits. Backyard weddings often give you a mix of natural beauty and personal history, which makes photos feel extra meaningful. Every corner felt photogenic. Soft pockets of light filtered through the trees. Cozy pathways lined with plants. The familiar textures of Noel’s childhood. All of it came together perfectly.
Noel and Jade were completely themselves. Playful, tender, a little goofy at times, totally in love. Those kinds of portraits are the best. You can feel the energy and see the connection. You know these are photos that will still mean something decades from now.

Noel and Jade’s day was one of those weddings that stays with you long after you pack up your cameras. Their Fort Collins backyard wedding felt intentional from the moment Noel stepped into her dress at the downtown loft all the way through their first look and private vows in her childhood yard. Everything was rooted in meaning. Nothing felt rushed or overly staged. It was simply two people choosing to celebrate their love in a place that already held years of memories.
I love photographing weddings like this because they feel honest. There is no performance. No pressure to do things a certain way. Just real emotion, real stories, and real connection. As a Fort Collins wedding photographer, these slower, heartfelt days are where I love to be!
Noel and Jade’s day felt like a deep breath in the middle of a busy world. Every moment was honest and full of heart. Their first look, their private vows, and the comfort of celebrating at home created a wedding that felt grounded, gentle, and beautifully them.
